About the Session:
This is the continuation of a practical learning session to support Grade 2 and 3 teachers in the ongoing implementation of the new ELA curriculum. The focus will be on the further skill development of these foundational literacy components by offering multi-sensory strategies for:
• phonemic awareness - segmenting, blending, and manipulation;
• phonics - decoding, spelling patterns;
• morphology - base words and affixes.
About the Presenter(s):
Dr. Deborah Karrah

Dr. Deborah Karrah is an experienced educator who is a Structured Literacy specialist and Certified Orton-Gillingham instructor. She provides school division professional learning sessions that focus on the foundational literacy skills of phonological awareness and phonics development. In her private practice, she offers reading as well as writing remediation for children who have dyslexia and dysgraphia. For the past three years, Dr. Karrah has also been collaborating with Harvard University in a research study on an innovative dyslexia screening technology developed by a multi-disciplinary team in Greece.

This session will be offered in-person. We will be using ZOOM for those wishing to attend remotely.

We recommend attending Part I (September 20, 2022), unless you have prior knowledge of Science of Reading and Structured Literacy.
