This is an introductory, practical learning session to support Kindergarten and Grade 1 teachers in the

implementation of the new ELA foundational literacy curriculum to equip students for reading success. The

focus will be on how to develop these key foundational skills:

phonological awareness - spoken word, rhyming, alliteration, onset-rime, syllables
phonemic awareness skills - phoneme identification, isolation, blending, segmenting, and manipulation
phonics skills - letter formation, letter/sound association, decoding (sounding out)
orthographic mapping - encoding (spelling); word memory retrieval

This learning opportunity will be offered in-person and NOT recorded. We will be using ZOOM for those wishing to attend remotely.
