Join us for this 3-session workshop series to examine functional life skills programming domains for Literacy and Numeracy. We will select individual program outcomes and collectively curate age-appropriate strategies, resources and assessments for Gr. 4-12. An exemplar of the desired end product is available by clicking here for your reference. Participants are asked to bring shareable documents, referenced resource texts, links to websites, classroom best practices or any other resources that will contribute to the collective work.

At the end of the series, school teams will have access to the developed scope and sequence document as a guide to assist in building individual student program plans at any grade level to best support individual student growth and development.

Session topics are as follows:

Session 1: Wellness: Healthy Relationships (Friendships)/Sexual Health

Session 2: Functional Literacy: Reading Comprehension

Session 3: Functional Numeracy: Time

Karen Chrenek, District Principal within Peace Wapiti School Division No. 76 has had a wide variety of professional positions all complimented by her role as a mother and wife. She has been engaged and enthusiastic about education for many years. Teaching, consulting, coaching and now administrating for PWSD has provided her with a variety of opportunities to collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, support staff, and additional professionals within the school community.

Sandra Ciurysek

Sandra Ciurysek is a long-time resident of the Peace Country and lives in Berwyn, Alberta. She holds a Master’s Degree in Education from University of Lethbridge, with a speciality in adult learning/teacher professional development, and a Bachelor’s of Education Degree from the University of Alberta. Sandra has an experienced background in K-12 education and was a teacher and school administrator before joining the Northwest Regional Learning Consortium as Executive Director. Sandra has been with the ARPDC for over 5 years and is an advocate for lifelong learning.
