November 9 - Session 1: Why Sometimes Reading is Hard: The Principles of Teaching Reading. This session will include an overview of the structures of language (which are foundational to language learning), the simple view of reading - SVR (sometimes call the science of reading-SoR), an expanded view of reading, the components of reading and their interrelationships, and the role of motivation in teaching reading and learning to read. This would include the sharing of some specific teaching strategies for teachers to take into their classrooms.

January 31 - Session 2: This session will focus specifically on the role of and developing the components of reading specifically fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension – for older readers, with a focus on strategies, resources, and lesson plan ideas that address teaching skills and developing motivation.
