About the Session:

The first Right to Read Program workshop entitled Catching Children before They Fail:  The Reading Readiness Screening Tool . 

 Part 1, Interventions is scheduled to be held in online on Friday May 8. 2020 from 9:00-11:15 am and 1:00-3:15pm. This workshop will provide the teachers with:

  •         An overview of the need for universal reading readiness screening
  •         The background of the Reading Readiness Screening Tool (RRST)
  •         A review of the RRST subtests
  •         Administrative guidelines, and
  •         Interventions (Part 1)

Following this workshop, the teachers will receive a pass code to electronically download the Excel Class Summary Sheet and Activities for Teachers to Build Reading Readiness Skills – Part 1 from the Right to Read website.

The second workshop, RRST Follow-Up:  Assessment Informs Instruction is scheduled to be held online Friday May 29, 2020 from 9:00-11:15 am and 1:00-3:15pm.  The workshop will provide teachers with an opportunity to:

  •         Share their experiences since the first workshop
  •         Interpret results
  •         Talk and learn about considerations for programming
  •         Experience a variety of activities to develop foundational skills
  •         Learn about instructional strategies, and
  •         Explore student and teacher resources

Following the second workshop, Activities for Teachers to Build Reading Readiness Skills – Part 2 and Activities for Parents to Build Reading Readiness Skills along with suggestions for conducting a Parent Workshop can be downloaded from the Right to Read website.

 

Note:  All components are in the French language, except those for parents.

Lesley Doell

Lesley Doell sert les enseignants en tant que conseillère pédagogique nationale en immersion française pour l'Association canadienne des professionnels en immersion (ACPI). Elle a également eu l’honneur de siéger dix ans au conseil d’administration de l’ACPI, y compris 4 ans en tant que présidente. Elle a dirigé de nombreuses initiatives fructueuses en matière d'immersion française et a eu le privilège d’être enseignante, chargée de cours universitaire, facilitatrice et directrice d’un centre de ressources. Elle détient une maîtrise en éducation du Centre de recherche en études franco-ontariennes de l'Université de Toronto. Lesley est honorée d'avoir été nommée Chevalier de l'Ordre des palmes académiques de la République française en 2015 pour son travail de promotion de la langue et de la culture françaises hors Québec. Lesley a initié le Comité national du DELF et l’a présidé jusqu’à 2018. Elle est honorée d'avoir reçu quatre prix provinciaux pour sa contribution en éducation en français. Elle est actuellement vice-présidente de la Commission nord-américaine (CAN) de la Fédération internationale des professeurs de français (FIPF) et aime partager ses connaissances et son expertise à l'échelle mondiale, ainsi qu'au niveau national et provincial.  Apprenante à vie, la passion de Lesley pour l’apprentissage et l’enseignement la langue de Molière est contagieuse.
