Classrooms and Schools that Work: What We Really Know About Effective K-3 Literacy Teaching and Learning (Miriam Trehearne)

There are multiple paths to literacy learning. That being said, we do know that there are some proven high-yield strategies that do make a huge difference no matter the path taken. The teachers celebrated in this research-based book and in this workshop will demonstrate many of these high-yield strategies and instructional approaches by providing hundreds of practical ideas that teachers can put to use in their classrooms tomorrow.  Real-life PRACTICAL examples will come to life through the many photos, student writing samples, and student, teacher, and parent reflections and stories.  Come and enjoy the varied voices! Miriam will demonstrate how to scaffold inquiry, self-regulation, art, play, technology and literacy learning effectively while linking assessment to instruction. This session is based on Miriam’s latest professional book( 2016)

Writing Across the Curriculum - Gr 4-8 teachers (Shelley Stagg Peterson)

Writing helps students to learn content more thoroughly as they engage with ideas and information encountered through reading, listening, viewing, and concrete experiences. In this session grades, 4-8 teachers will be introduced to strategies for using writing as a learning tool that will work in many subject areas, though the examples will be in particular subjects.

Closing the Writing Gap in Kindergarten to Grade 3 (Miriam Trehearne)

Unlock each student’s writing potential! In this practical session you will learn how to engage even the most reluctant writers. Clear writing expectations, motivating writing activities and mini-lessons that support the reading-writing connection will be shared. Develop students who think, act and write like real writers. And, enhance those home-school connections. This session is based in part on Miriam’s professional book, Learning to Write and Loving it!  (2011) https://www.amazon.ca/Learning-Write-Loving-Preschool-Kinderg/dp/145220313X as well as her other professional books.
