FrEd Matters understands that French teachers face an ever-changing landscape of challenges in the world of education. We believe that by building a creative, informed community of teachers, we can work together to meet the intellectual, social, digital, behavioral, and emotional needs of each and every student we serve.

Our speakers have presented Keynote addresses, sessions, and workshops at major Language conferences worldwide. Our session topics are the most relevant because they are voted upon and chosen by French teachers like you!

9:00-10:30- Larissa Adaj- Technology in the classroom, Motivating the Unmotivated, Authentic digital tasks (ex. Storage Wars in French).

10:30-10:40- movement break

10:40-12:10- Steven Langlois- Got Grammar, DJ DELF Kit, action-oriented approach, Bell Work

12:10-12:40- lunch break

1:30-3:00-Maddy Shipton- STEM with FSL focus, Minecraft, Coding, Gamification, PokÉcole GO!

Each participant will receive a “swag bag” with over $250 worth French resources designed to meet 100% of the needs of the Alberta French curriculum.

Larissa Aradj

Larissa Aradj is a French Immersion teacher and Digital Lead Learner in the West End of Toronto with the Toronto District School Board. She currently teaches HPE & Media Literacy (en français!) at Lord Lansdowne PS downtown. She has a passion for FSL, educational technology, G Suite and always spreads her geeky side to whoever will listen! She is the writer and creator of the “EdTech du Jour” blog www.MrsGeekChic.com where she shares many free French & technology resources.
She has facilitated workshops and professional development sessions for teachers at several conferences, summits and edcamps around Ontario. Larissa is the ICT Chairperson at her school, Google Certified Educator, Trainer & Innovator (#TOR16).

Maddy Shipton

Maddalena Shipton is an experienced elementary teacher for the Toronto Catholic District School Board. She works with a true passion for teaching and lifelong learning, nurturing a cooperative, inclusive classroom where students feel comfortable taking risks and working collaboratively. She regularly differentiates her teaching with a focus on high-yield approaches, fostering a classroom community and promoting appreciation for individual differences. She has also been involved in a variety of ministry funded initiatives in which she worked as a Curriculum Consultant, Writer, Project Leader and PD Network Presenter, with a focus on 21st Century Learning competencies, CEFR, Growth Mindset, Accessibility Awareness and Differentiated Instruction. She leads teacher/author teams in composing resources and professional development materials, facilitates workshops, webinars and EdCamps as well as provides supportive leadership in her role as an NTIP Mentor.

Steven Langlois

Steven has been a certified teacher for over 23 years teaching Core French, French Immersion and other subjects to grades 1-12. He has authored, consulted on and/or composed music for several widely-used international school programs produced by leading educational companies and has produced several CDs and DVDs used daily in French, Spanish and English classrooms around the world as the French educational performer “Étienne” and “DJ DELF.”

Participants from the 7 school boards who are part of the FLRC partnership (Peace Wapiti School Division, Grande Prairie Catholic School Division, Grande Prairie Public School Division, Conseil Scolaire du Nord Ouest, High Prairie School Division, Peace River School Division and Holy Family Catholic Regional Division) will attend for no charge (FLRC funds used for registration).

If you are not a participant from the above mentioned school boards, you will be charged the full original registration fee of $125 by invoice.
