Northern Lakes Collaborative Services (NLCS) and Peace Collaborative Services (PCS) are working in partnership to present a four day workshop series on Complex Communication Needs.  This workshop is pleased to have Kathy Howery as a keynote speaker for the first session and the consecutive sessions will be presented by service providers from NLCS and PCS. Sessions will build on each other.

The format will be a mix of theory and practical, hands-on activities. Participants will be given a variety of practical resources and materials, and will be invited into a group to continue to share questions and expertise about working with and educating children and youths with Complex Communication Needs.

Each day will be on a different topic and will build upon knowledge gained on previous days.  Topics to be covered may vary slightly based on feedback from participants.

Some topics to be covered will include:

  • What is AAC and/or Complex Communication Needs?
  • How do I support students with CCN in the classroom?
  • How do I use an alternative/ augmented communication system?
  • What sorts of IPP goals are appropriate for these students?
  • Aided language stimulation
  • Literacy for students with Complex Communication Needs

This workshop is offered in-person in Grande Prairie, and by remote access at Valleyview, Wabasca, Peace River, and High Prairie.

Anyone who is involved with a student with Complex Communication Needs is invited to attend.  This could include:

  • Teachers
